JCI Manchester prides itself on its insightful training events and this year is no different. We have already held a number of training events since the start of the year and started our busy calendar of events with only our second breakfast seminar ever held at RBS Spinningfields. Mark Briegal, Corporate Partner at Aaron and Partners Solicitors provided members with an uplifting and much needed presentation (given it was the dreaded January!) on motivation, providing a list of tried and tested ways to motivate colleagues and yourself.

Members new and not so new came away from the well-attended event feeling inspired and ready for action, as well as fed and watered by the RBS provided bacon butties.

Our second breakfast seminar of the year was held on Thursday 21 March  and was equally motiviating. Alistair Macdonald, ex-BBC correspondent, presented 'You're Only Selling Yourself.' He provided members with tips on personal presentation, including advice on public speaking and dealing with those dreaded nerves.

Photos from our social and training events can be found JCI Manchester's twitter, facebook and linkedin pages.

Chosen Charities
by Kleon West on May 21, 2013 20:45

Every year JCI Manchester is proud to give something back to the community by supporting a local Manchester-based charity. This year, we've decided to do things a little differently, by supporting 2 charities for 2013 and 2014. We are very excited to announce that our supported charities for this year and next, will be Francis House Children's Hospice based in Didsbury and Forever Manchester, a community based charity based in central Manchester.

Francis House Children's Hospice is a wonderful local charity providing a home away from home for families of children and young people with life threatening or life limiting conditions. Francis House provides children and young people with care and families with support, dispelling the traditional notion of a hospice by providing a place of rest, fun, comfort and enjoyment.

Forever Manchester is a community based charity providing 'Charity the Mancunian Way' through its dedication to strengthening communities, creating opportunities for local people and tackling issues of disadvantage and exclusion.

Director of the Month - David Hayes

Each month we will be featuring one of our committee members and their ambitions for JCI Manchester for this year. Our first member of the month is David Hayes, Sports Director. This is the first year the JCI Manchester committee has appointed a dedicated sports director, borne largely out of the success of Tough Mudder last year and the 3 Peaks' Challenge in 2011.

David brings much ambition, vision and energy to this new role. He has developed a dedicated sport's program for the coming year, the aim of which is to achieve some fundamental objectives for JCI Manchester. These include facilitation of personal and professional developments of both JCI members and non-members through sport, including development of new skills, meeting new people and giving something back to the community.

Some of the activities David has planned for this year include planned participation in the Manchester 10k and a possible Guinness World Record attempt. We are also hoping to enter a team into this Tough Mudder, meeting to be held on Tuesday 21st May. Watch this space.
